Wow! What a fun & exciting contest we had on Facebook. I want to thank all of the seniors who played along. And I also want to thank everyone who voted for their favorite image and to those of of you who are new to jeri hoag photography.

It came down to the last minutes battling back and forth between first and second place. In the end though Brooke won with 284 votes. Chelsea came in a close second with 273 votes. Huge congrats to both of you! Everyone is a winner though as I think they are all wonderful people and have some fabulous senior photos to cherish.

Brooke did an awesome job and has won a prize package consisting of: her choice of a prom night session OR a best friend session by jhp. A 4x8 accordion album with approximately 10 images from the session and also a $25 gift certificate from Jules Boutique Goshen & a $25 gift certificate towards framing at Accents Framing & Gifts of Goshen. This baby boy was so precious and huggable. I can see why his momma wants to hold him all day. He was so adorable while trying to pose him. He would squirm, open his eyes, then fall back to sleep, over and over... too cute! He was not happy with me when I tried placing him on his tummy and screamed at me a few times. I had a fit when I arrived at this little ones house and met her. I'm sure her momma hears it a lot, but just look at all of that gorgeous hair! I love it! She definitely wins the award for the baby with the most hair that I've ever photographed. And look at that smile... I absolutely love it when I can capture a smile on a sleeping newborn. ♥

At only 4 days young this little guy slept like a champ and was oh so curly. This is a bigger sneak peek than usual for this little guy and his parents. It's a special post... You see his parents are both in the U.S. Army. Dad is being deployed for his third tour of duty to Afghanistan very soon. He will miss most of his son's first year of life. This is a sacrafice they are making to protect our country and our freedom. Words cannot express how thankful I am to them and all that serve and have served our country. It's certainly been a privilege to work with them and I'm honored that they chose me as their photographer. Thank you, Solia & Misty, it's been a pleasure. Your little C-man is adorable.

I was contacted several weeks ago by this momma who is in the Armed Forces and was coming home to have her baby. I knew the timeline would be cutting it close, but not this close. I titled this post "Early" because when I took these photos their little guy was suppose to arrive soon... today, 1/1/11 to be exact, but he arrived a few days early. So less than 48 hours after I took them their baby made his debut into this world. Now onto the photos... doesn't this glowing momma look fabulous? They were such a cute couple and such naturals in front of the camera. It was a fun session and I'm looking forward to meeting their little guy in just a few short days.

This little guy's momma called me early on in her pregnancy to set this appointment so I've been anticipating it for a very long time. His big brother was a star on my blog last year appearing every few months. Now it's his turn to be the star and I think he's ready to shine. This handsome little guy is an old friend of mine. Well, I did take his first year of photos and now he's 2. ;) I'll say it again... I love it when I see clients over and over. Molly & Smoke were the stars of this photo session. Their owners had a great idea for me to get their attention. Good thing, because I can't wistle loud. They brought their squeaky toy. I had it hidden up under my arm so when it squeaked they would look my way, most times anyway. ;) You may recognize one of the girls in the images as she was a senior I photographed not too long ago. After talking to her mom at her senior session we decided to get together for a quick mini session of their family a few weeks later. We couldn't have had a more beautiful fall day. Thanks, family! I spent a crisp mid-morning Sunday photographing this wonderful family. Most of them drove atleast an hour so they were ready to stretch their legs and walk around campus a bit with me. We found some great locations and surprisingly there was still some beautiful fall colors. Coordinating an extended families clothing is difficult when you can't see what everyone else is wearing, but this family did a fabulous job despite that. To top it off, the kids did awesome. Thanks family!

This senior girl, her mom and I met up at a local park on a bit of a chilly day. Thankfully we were able to still find some color on a few trees for fall photos. Watch for her to be on the blog again this winter and next spring as we are breaking her session up to capture 3 different season. I love the idea! Hmmm.... I am loving all of the senior sessions I've had this fall. Each session is a bit different and unique to tailor it to the senior. I love hearing about what they're involved in, their college plans and family. It truly is an honor to be a small part of their senior year.

So without further ado, This was another gorgeous high school senior that was lots of fun. I have to tell you this story... I was recently at a NR home football game. I didn't realize it, but it was their Homecoming game. At half time they started to introduce and announce the Homecoming court and I notice she is one of them. I was cheering her on and had my kids yelling for her too. :) I was so excited to see her win Homecoming Queen. Big congrats to you, D!

Just a few random facts about this senior:
She's on the High Honor roll and part of the National Honor Society. She loves wearing flip flops. She plans to attend Purdue and study Business Management.

I see a bright future for her. Best of luck to you!

Miss E recently celebrated her first birthday and graduated from the jhp baby plan. She was always such a pleasure to photograph and so stinkin cute! The fall colors have recently become more of a challange to find as a lot of trees are bare now. I think we were pretty successful in finding color and interesting places to shoot. This senior session was quite the adventure for me. I'm sure this guy and his mom thought I was nuts asking all the questions I did about hunting, deer and the woods we were walking through. I may live in small town Goshen, but I'm a big city girl at heart. ;) Thank goodness for short thick hair or this session would not have been possible due to the wind gusts we were experiencing this day. I photographed the little guy in these photos last year all by himself. We had fun playing around and I worked hard for the smiles then. This year it was a bit different... as he was more willing to hand out the smiles. I think he practiced this time. ;) It was great to meet his siblings this time around. I get asked a lot what to wear to a session, especially for families. I always try describing clothing choices to clients. First of all, I tell clients to wear something that you will be comfortable in. When planning for multiple people in a portrait, it’s best to coordinate colors and styles rather than match. When I first met this senior she mentioned that she loved bright colors and hoped to have some bright colored walls for her backdrops. I knew of some splashes of color around town and here and there, but she searched for her own colored walls. When I called the night before to confirm our locations her mom told me that they found the perfect bright green wall. I was excited to see what she found. Wow! She wasn't kidding... it was bright! I have to say that after spending several hours with her that bright colors suit her personality well. She has such a fun, bubbly, outgoing personality.

I had to throw this first image in here just for fun. When I remember to I photograph my subject holding my target in new locations with different lighting conditions. After I use the image in post-processing I just toss it. So you see it's not necessary for the subject to smile. Most of the seniors I photograph holding my target look like I'm taking a mug shot of them, but not this senior... she smiled for every one of them. :) After a few shots it became a joke.

I want to say thank you to all of my faithful blog readers... Thank you for checking back on a regular basis. I'm so sorry I haven't updated my blog in almost 2 months. I've needed to step back and take some time off from the business. And now that I'm back to shooting (I mean photographing people) again I will have sneak peeks again. :) In fact, I still have some sneak peeks I would like to share that I took back in July before Mallory's death. And on that note, I do still plan to share my sweet Mallory's birth story with you soon.

2011 Riley high school photography

What better way to start back than to photograph a senior. I have to say that I was excited when this guy's mom contacted me late Spring. I love that she planned that far ahead and got on my calendar months in advance. That helps out so much with my scheduling.

This senior at Riley HS is on the golf team. He brought his golf clubs along so naturally one of our stops was at a golf course. It was quite fun taking his photos there and quite interesting dodging all of the geese poop around the pond. Take note seniors: I love it when you bring along your sporting equipment or anything that represents your interest/activities. Oh, and he totally lucked out that I didn't make him do anything goofy for my camera. :)

Some fun random facts about this senior:

He likes Cappuccino Heath ice cream (yum!), cherry coke, and pepperoni/banana pepper pizza, and the color blue.

I had a fabulous time hopping from one location to the next with this senior, his mom and his sister. I wish you much success your senior year and at college next year.

Grieving for our baby girl

On 7/21 at 6:21pm our precious daughter, Mallory Gail Hoag, was born with her angel wings. Weighing 2 lbs, 7oz, 15" long. While this is truly devastating to our family we find comfort in knowing she is with God. We feel so blessed to have so many friends and extended family reaching out to us and appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers. Right now we are getting by day by day and tomorrow, on the one week anniversary since Mallory's death, we will have a private family memorial service. At some point in time I hope to share our story of Mallory's birth.

As you can imagine losing Mallory has changed our lives. For this reason I will be taking some much needed time off to be with my family and to grieve. If you’ve inquired about services I will be in touch, but please understand it will take me some time to get back to you. If you have a scheduled appointment I will get in touch with you to discuss the options at this point. If you don't hear from me for awhile feel free to send me an email to remind me. My mind is a little foggy right now so I may forget. This family rocked the outfits! I love it when a family shows up so nicely coordinated especially in bright colors. They were also a great family to work with. It was so stinkin' hot out, but they did just great dealing with the weather. Not only did we have to put up with the heat, but a stray cat found us and wanted to be in their photos. Poor thing wouldn't leave us alone. Thank you, family, for being so patient while trying to capture the perfect images of you together.

Kaylie is a 2011 spokesmodel for jhp so we got together for a another short session and this time her friend, Jordan, came along. We had fun walking around town looking for fun little places. They made my job easy as they were both great in front of the camera. Thanks girls!

I would like to suggest to my seniors to come prepared to laugh and have a good time. I want you to be yourself so it shows in your images. No need to be nervous and stiff around me. I also suggest that you take the time to practice your facial expressions in the mirror to see what you look like with different expressions. Another great idea is to watch America's Next Top Model to see how they pose. Last, but not least please let me know if you have any questions and concerns.

This silly little 2 year old girl belongs to my friend. I've photographed her before, but I have to say this was the toughest time I've had with her. 2 year olds have a mind of their own and most want to do their own thing. She was no exception. She didn't want to play or sing with me, she just wanted to run. :) To top it off it was a very hot and humid day and I had already photographed twin 2 year olds earlier in the day so I had no energy to chase her, but it was fun nonetheless. This little sweetie pie just celebrated her first birthday. I first met her last fall when I took some portraits for her family. What a joy it's been to watch her grow over the past 7-8 months. She always has a smile to share with me. This time around she had a lot of fun eating a cupcake at the end of her session. Boy, did she dig into the frosting and even used her feet to help. That's when we decided that she probably had enough. You could tell she was proud of the mess she made. :)

Here's more of this little guy as promised. He had the sweetest little smile with just a few teeth. He loved chewing on everything I put in front of him... it was so cute. This baby blanket was made by his great grandma for his daddy when he was a baby. When I saw it hanging in his bedroom I just had to photograph him with it. I laid him next to the "W" for his name. And that's his daddy's name stitched on the wagon. How cool is that?!?!

Jordan's appointment was one of the few from last week that I actually got to complete. This rainy weather has put a damper on my appointments and I've had to reschedule several lately. We were lucky enough to have a beatiful evening though. Thank goodness as this guy will be graduating soon. This little guy amazed me that he was so content and sleepy at just over 2 weeks old. He slept like a champ and didn't put up much fight when I tried moving him around. He even slept through the noise that was going on around him. Maybe this means mom will have a good napper on her hands. :)It was great to meet your new little guy, Heather. First of all, I have to say thank you so much to Rochelle and her mom, Michelle, for being so patient and understanding with my camera malfuntion the first night we met. We finished up her session the very next night which ended up being better afterall. The temperature was warmer, the wind was much calmer and the lighting was softer. I'm so glad it worked out to our benefit. Rochelle was up for anything so we had a lot of fun. This adorable, tiny miracle arrived a week earlier than her due date. I thought it was pretty cool that I actually took her photos on her due date. She was wide awake when I arrived so I was able to get a few images of her with her eyes open. Thankfully, she was as content as could be or this wouldn't have been possible. Then she slowly drifted off to sleep. You can tell this new mommy and daddy are smitten. They couldn't take their eyes off of her. Can you blame them? I knew when I got this first image that it was going to be my favorite. Just look at her little smile! How sweet is that?

McKenzie {Northwood high school senior photography}

McKenzie braved the wind and rain with me to get her session completed. It wasn't raining when we started, but we knew it was on the way so we were working as fast as we could. Then the sprinkles began while we were out shooting. We were able to get back to our vehicles to get umbrellas... that's a whole other story. :) The rain was spotty here and there, but we managed to stay dry between the buildings and use the umbrellas in between while walking around. Then the wind picked up when the rain stopped, but luckily we were just about finished. Boy, the April weather has certainly made my senior appointments somewhat challenging this year. It was a great appointment despite the elements. It was great to see you again, Norma and to work with you and McKenzie.

This was another senior session that I had to battle the wind. Courtney was patient though and did a great job dealing with it. We actually got some cool wind blown hair images so that was a plus. I had a great time exploring a few different areas with Courtney and her mom looking for some cool backdrops for her senior photos. Courtney was so photogenic she made my job easy. Yep, you're right... you've seen her on my blog before. Since Sami choose the premium senior session we broke it up into two appointments. This was her second session. For her first session she choose the urban look. Then for this we went nature and hit the park. It was a horrible windy and chilly day, but we managed okay. We had to keep waiting on the wind to die down for a few seconds then I would snap. I'm sure we looked pretty funny doing it, but it worked. Thanks for being so patient, Sami. I wish you the best of luck off at college next fall.

I feel so privileged that this little guy's family has chosen me as their photographer. I enjoy seeing them at each appointment and how he progresses. You see he has Cerebral Palsy, but that doesn't stop him from smiling. He has a smile that lights up a room... just look at how his whole face smiles. And to top that off he has the most beautiful long eyelashes. He just celebrated his 3rd birthday in January so these images are to document that milestone. I am excited to share my news with all of you. I've been holding it in for over 15 weeks now and believe me it was tough for me to do.

Yep, that's right.... We are very excited to be welcoming another baby to our family in early October. This means that I will be taking my winter break a little early starting in October. However, I will be taking a few select appointments late October/early November for some of my seniors and one current baby planner. :) I want to reassure all of my clients that I do plan on returning to work in January 2011.

Another fabulous and fun senior that I got to hang out with (and her mom.) It warmed up a bit by the time we took Sami's photos, but then the wind had picked up and we had that to deal with. It mostly worked against us, but I was able to capture some cool wind blown hair images when it wasn't blowing her hair straight up. If she looks familiar from my blog that's because she modeled for me in the very beginning of starting my business in the fall of 2008. The title of my post was inpired by Nelson you see here in a few of these images with his beautiful pregnant wife, Marietta. So of course, we had to capture a few images of her barefoot even though it was a bit chilly out. :) They were such a fun couple to spend part of my day with. I love the colors of this family's shirts. They were such fun Spring colors. I don't know about you, but it certainly makes me anxious for more Springtime weather. You may recognize these faces if you've been on my blog before. I've had the pleasure of photographing this gorgeous family 3 times since starting my business. I absolutely love getting to know my clients and seeing them repeatedly. It's such a great feeling when you arrive at their home and the children welcome you in. Tim is one of my senior spokesmodels the 2010-2011 year. No, he's not a senior yet, but will be soon enough. We will take more images of him come summer or fall. Anyway, Tim, his mom, and I braved the cold and walked the downtown area for some cool spots to shoot. Which turns out to be a pretty cool place for Tim since he plans on attending college for Architecture. Can you tell he's freezing? He did a great job of staying relaxed even though it was cold.

Another cutie patootie little boy who will be turning 1 soon. He always keeps me laughing with his different facial expressions. Such an expressive little guy. He's another graduating baby planner, which makes me sad. I hope to see you again, little guy. Can you tell he really enjoyed his cake? ;)

I also wanted to add... If you look at the photos in this post and the one before it you will see two different kinds of portrait sessions. This one is more like a home studio setting in your own home with my seamless background paper and usually my props. The one before this is a lifestyle portrait style using your own home or surroundings as the background. I'm a custom photographer so I give you the option of which one you choose. Either works great for inside portraits... it's just up to you and what kind of look you want. As soon as the weather gets nicer than I prefer to do sessions outside again (except for newborns.) Outside sessions are my favorite as they are more natural and relaxed overall. :)

Please keep in mind that my schedule is limited due to only accepting about 4-8 appointments a month. I do make room for newborns in my schedule so if you're interested in an appointment contact me with your due date and I can pencil you in. If you're a current senior graduating in 2010 I do have a few appointments left at the end of April/beginning of May.

I'm so excited about this warmer weather. ♥ I sure hope it's here to stay. Now, I just need it to not rain on the weekends when I have appointments. :)

I have to share this image of my littlest guy. He's not the easiest to photograph as he usually runs and hides from the camera. This one's a keeper for sure.

You've already seen Chelsi on my blog site as I've already taken some of her senior photos. We broke her senior session up into 3 parts due to her wanting a few images with her snowboard. We waited for the snow and thankfully there was plenty of it. :) We started with some fun action shots then got some cute posed shots with her snowboard. Doesn't she look like a natural? I was impressed with her jump. :)

If you're a senior keep in mind your hobbies and your interest when coming to your appointment. Using props that are a part of who you are at this moment in time is a great way to show your personality. And I'm sure down the road in your future it will be great to look back at your senior photos to remember what your interest were at that point in your life.

Oh my goodness! This little girl is just the cutest and her mom has the cutest clothes for her to wear. She is so full of energy and has such cute little facial expressions. I couldn't stop giggling at her. How lucky am I that I get to photograph her 1st year? I almost forgot to mention she even blew me a few kisses. That made the hard work to capture these images all worth it. :) I'm sure this is a special post for her daddy as he's off at training for the National Guard for a few months. On a side note: I love it when clients have their own props or items that have special meaning to them and their family. It makes your photos that more special. The chair this little girl is sitting on was her mommy's when she was a little girl. It has a family history. Now how cool is that?

It's that time of year again jeri hoag photography is looking for current juniors to be senior spokesmodels for the 2011 graduating class at all local high schools - Goshen, Elkhart Memorial, Elkhart Central, Northridge, Fairfield, Northwood, Mishawaka, Clay, Penn, Niles, Edwardsburg, St. Joseph - just to name a few, but certainly not limited to these schools.

It's a great way to earn extra cash, get discounts, free images and spokesmodel cards. If you're interested in hearing more details please contact me. You will need to fill out an application/contract and a parent consent is required to participate. I am taking a limited number of spokesmodels this year so it's best to apply early. I wanted to start this post by saying sorry for the lack of post and sneak peeks over the last month. I took some time off from shooting for a small break and to work on other things around here behind the scenes. "C" man is another baby planner that turned 1. Why do they have to do that? They grow up way too fast. He had just woke up from his nap when I arrived to take his photos so it took him a bit to wake up, but when I got him to giggle and smile at me he gave me some big ones. Can you tell he loves his football? :) I was there to take his one year photos, but I couldn't resist getting a few of his sister, too. I'm sad that he's one as this means I won't see him every 3 months, but I'm excited to see this little guy and his sister again this summer. As always, thanks so much Amy & Brian.

This is my niece. She turned one in August and we finally got her one year photos taken. We've been trying to squeeze her into my schedule for sometime now and we were finally able to get together last week to grab a few. This little girl is active. To say she was on the go would be an understatement. :) The only thing that slowed her down was the cupcake. She made me work hard, but I'm so glad we were able to get together and get some cute images of her. Happy belated birthday, "T"!

When Joey's mom first left me a message regarding a senior session I knew her name sounded familiar, but couldn't place where I had heard it before. When I talked to her and told her that her name sounded familiar she explained to me that it was probably because my nephew is Joey's best friend. Ah ha! I finally got to meet this handsome little fella last week. He slept like a champ. Don't you just love his Colts attire? I actually caught him smiling a few times which doesn't happen at every newborn session. He must have been having some good dreams. :) Thanks, Trevor & Angie. He's a sweetie!
